Graduate Scholarships. While less common than undergraduate scholarships, scholarships for graduate students are available. Graduate students rely heavily on fellowships or assistantships - especially in high-need areas like nursing or teaching - but these aren’t available to everyone and don’t always cover a graduate student’s living expenses.

Attending college for nursing can pay off big time: According to government records, registered nursing is projected to be the second most popular new profession for students across the nation (as well as for those who bring their experience from abroad).And things are only getting better: Nursing.

Many nursing employers seek candidates with a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN), which allows nurses to access higher-paying positions and more diverse job opportunities. However, nursing school tuition is on the rise, presenting a hurdle for prospective students. Students may find financial assistance through scholarships, grants, or loans.

Founded in 2008 to help alleviate the nursing shortage and increase the diversity of nursing professionals, NCIN awarded its final grants in 2015 to schools with accelerated baccalaureate and master’s degree nursing programs. In total, grants have provided scholarships to 3,517 students at 130 unique schools of nursing.

A commitment to nursing is expected and demonstrated in the nursing essay, relevant work experience and community service, letters of recommendation and academic performance. These federal nursing scholarships include tuition, eligible fees, other reasonable costs and monthly stipend.

American Association of Men in Nursing (AAMN) facilitates male nursing education by administering grants and scholarships, when funds are available. The nursing scholarships may only be used at California nursing programs. The graduate health care student scholarships may only be used at U.S. graduate schools. The scholarships for high school graduates and community college transfer students may be used at any accredited post-secondary educational institution, whether in the U.S. or not.
